Functional Patterns & Human Biomechanics Specialist

Hi, I’m Steve Zekic – a Functional Patterns Human Biomechanics Specialist (Level 1), Certificate III & IV in Fitness, Nutrition Coach, Kettlebell Trainer, and Punchfit Trainer. I’m also First Aid certified, fully insured, and have been working as a personal trainer for over 17 years.

I train clients in my private personal training studio in Penrith and online. I also work for Functional Patterns Brisbane online– helping people move better, live pain-free, and get lasting results through biomechanics-based functional fitness.

My Journey in the Fitness Industry

My life has always revolved around movement – from soccer, rugby league, AFL, and martial arts to rock climbing, running, and mountain biking.

I started my career working in gyms around Penrith, training under the CHEK Practitioner system while immersing myself in CrossFit. Over 10 years, I trained hundreds of men, women, kids, and teens, even opening my own CrossFit gym – Nepean CrossFit – which sent athletes to the CrossFit Games. I ran it for 5 years before selling and taking time off to reassess my next step.

Discovering Functional Patterns & Biomechanics

After selling my gym, I returned to the industry and was introduced to Functional Patterns through the 10 week online course, then soon realized that i need help, so I started training with a practitioner at Functional Patterns Sydney and online. That was a turning point – I saw firsthand how training built on human biomechanics could radically improve movement, posture, and quality of life.

 

Through myofascial release techniques, corrective exercise, and tailored workout routines, I experienced improvements in my own posture, strength, and mobility that I never thought possible.

Why I Train the Functional Way

The Functional Patterns methodology gave me a deeper connection between my body and mind, along with the tools to future-proof my movement patterns. This approach isn’t about short-term fixes – it’s about long-term results.

Today, I use Functional Patterns principles to help my clients:​

​​✔ Follow sustainable weight loss fitness programs

✔ Build strength with the best workout routine to build muscle safely

✔ Develop balance, stability, and coordination for everyday life

I have been doing weekly sessions with Steve for a couple of months and have learnt a lot about my personal movement patterns. After a session I sleep very deeply and completely without pain which is unusual for me. Steve is thoughtful and knowledgeable, tailoring training to a persons specific needs - highly recommend.
